PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Pennyroyal is an aromatic herb of the Greek countryside. It belongs to the plant genus named mint «Mentha». The name “mentha” derives from the ancient Greek name of Nymph Minthi. Greeks call it Wild Mentha on “Fliskouni”.

In ancient Greece it was known by the name (Vlichouni or Vlichion) and was used by physicians like Hippocrates, Dioscorides, Galenus, and others, as a remedy for many diseases such as colds, coughs, dysmenorrheal, vertigo, insomnia and sore throats and many others. Ancient Greeks also flavored water in the bathroom with pennyroyal, at halls of “symposia” to stimulate the appetite and good mood.

In small doses, this tea is considered to be a tranquilizer – soothing, while in heavy doses as a male stimulant and an aphrodisiac.

The “Mentha pulegium” species grows free in the wild in wet valleys, in clearings, in the forest and on mountainous banks of lakes and streams. It is collected in the summer only in Central Greece, on the Pindos and Agrafa Mountains which are renowned for the exceptional quality of herbs that grow there at altitudes of 600-1200 meters. This type of mint contains larger quantities of essential oils, but also valuable substances of mint, such as, menthol, the Peppermint oil, tannin etc. Collected with care and only by hands, plants are strapped on site in small bunches (bundles), for not pressed flowers and leaves. Then bunches are hung in a shady and ventilated place for several days until they dry out naturally, without using any technical means (drier) and without plants exposed to the sun for quick drying. When Tea is completely dry out, small bundles are rubbed by hand and not by mechanical means, in order to collect only flowers and plant leaves, without branches. This way final product is perfectly clean and fine, with exhalent flavor and taste. Finally, dry Pennyroyal mint tightly packed in special packaging certified suitability for food. This ensures beautiful golden color, aroma, flavor, properties and the unsurpassed quality of our tea.
